About glass

Glass is a versatile and ancient material, primarily composed of silica (sand), soda (sodium carbonate), and lime (calcium oxide). These components are melted at high temperatures to form a molten liquid, which is then rapidly cooled to become a rigid, non-crystalline solid. There are several types of glass, including soda-lime glass, which is commonly used for windows and bottles, borosilicate glass, known for its thermal resistance and used in laboratory equipment and cookware, tempered glass, which is strengthened through heat treatment for safety applications like car windows and shower doors, and laminated glass, consisting of multiple layers bonded with an interlayer, used in windshields and skylights.
